Connect to your social networks to find friends' check-ins or share locations. Now featuring about a dozen US cities with coverage expanding both in the US and to Europe.

The application combines NAVTEQ street imagery, building models and terrain data to create interactive panoramic street scenes. It uses building models to make buildings clickable, and to present information right on the building facade, so you can discover information just by browsing along a street.

You can use City Scene's location aware search to jump directly to a panoramic view of the place you're looking for, so you'll recognize it when you go there. The application lists your friends' Foursquare and Facebook check-ins so you can jump to where they've been. You can also share "postcards" of locations complete with street address (maybe suggesting a place to meet for coffee later). The Featured Cities list will grow automatically as NAVTEQ completes more drives.

Nokia Ace Leaked Again?

The Design Museum of Shad, Thames demonstrated 3 Nokia  devices. The list includes the Nokia Lumia 800, the Nokia N9 and an unknown device. The handset comes with a large and thin display, which is a hint of Windows Phone. The analysts claim this is the Nokia Ace, which was rumored earlier, but never actually faced a release.  We expected to see the device at Nokia World 2011, but the hope is not all gone. We assume the device will be unveiled in Q1 of 2012.

It’s very much possible that what we see is simply a render from Nokia and not a real device. But we will never know unless we hear a word from Nokia representatives.
So what is the Nokia Ace? It’s rumored to be a 4.3 inch AMOLED display device coming with ClearBlack technology, 1 GHz processor, an 8 megapixel rear camera with video capturing capabilities (as usual we don’t have a front-facing camera for a WP device), 16 GB of internal storage, HSPA+ connectivity and Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS.
The Nokia Ace is expected to get released by AT&T at the beginning of next year. There’s no feedback from the carrier itself.

Nokia to Produce Tablets after Success in Smartphone Market

A few days ago we posted Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop hinted at the Windows 8 tablets in an interview given to This is My Next. To the question on the plans concerning Nokia tablets asked by the Financial Times Elop didn’t answer anything certain either. But we make certain assumptions from his words. Here’s what he said:
“We are not commenting on specific plans for tablets. But I will point out that one of the things that we are excited about in terms of support for the Windows Phone are the announcements made around Windows 8 for tablets and personal computers. When you see the user experience from the Nokia Lumia environment appearing on hundreds of millions of tablets and PCs in the future, you can see that there is a clear synergy between all those environments. So that presents an interesting opportunity for Nokia.”

On the whole, it’s not Nokia’s fault that it can’t dream of tablets running Windows Phone 7, because Microsoft has ruled out tablets based on this version of the OS. So the Finnish company must wait for Windows 8, which will have a tablet-friendly user interface that borrows heavily from the Windows Phone 7 Metro UI. We have long to wait for it.
On the other hand, as the executive vice president in charge of mobile phones at Nokia, Mary McDowell pointed out, the tablet market is very competitive despite its young age. So they must focus on the future success in the smartphone market.

Nokia N9 Software Video

As we know the Nokia N9 is the first device from Nokia, which is not using any kind of hardware or capacitive buttons. The smartphone uses touchscreen buttons, which means that the user’s only required to be familiar with the swipe technology. This MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan device uses ideal touchscreen technology.

Another exclusive feature of the device is that it uses MeeGo OS, which is a result of several years of hard work. This operating system differs from iOS, Android and Windows Phone, but obviously, there are a lot of similarities. The OS functions perfectly with the device supporting various interesting applications from third-parties.
Just want to remind you that Nokia abandoned the usage of the OS and thus you will not get a chance to see another device with this version of OS, while the updates will still be rolled to the Nokia N9 customers.
Basically the most bothering problem of the OS is that it doesn’t support a big list of apps from Nokia stores, as those are not compatible with the OS. To have an overall impression about the OS and its features, we offer to have a look at the Nokia N9 software tour video.
